The Sussex County HAZMAT team, consisting of county employees and volunteers who are trained and on call to respond to environmental and public health emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Sussex County HAZMAT team was recognized by the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection as a Model Program for Hazardous Materials Response. The program has matured into a valuable asset and tool for the municipalities of Sussex County
State of the Art HAZMAT equipment including response vehicles, air monitoring instruments, personal protective equipment, and Decon units were all paid for through Homeland Security Grants received from the State and Federal Government with very little impact from county tax dollars.
