Mosquito Hot Spots
Mosquito hot spots are prime areas for mosquito breeding. Areas that contain standing bodies of water such as swamps, wetlands or lakes are excellent breeding habitats for mosquitoes. Sussex County hot spots are concentrated along the Wallkill River and Wallkill Refuge along the Vernon/Wantage border, the Pochuck, Wawayanda and Black Creek areas of Vernon and the Papakating Creek along the Wantage/Frankford border. In addition, the lake communities of Hopatcong also serve as prime areas for mosquito breeding.
