Sussex County Bioterrorism Preparedness Program

What the Division of Health is doing to prepare

Planning

The State of New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services provides the services of a Health Planner. This individual is responsible for all health emergency preparedness planning activities in the county.

Drills

The Department participates in local and statewide drills and exercises designed to test, evaluate and enhance our ability to protect the public in the event of a health emergency or terrorist attack.

Domestic Preparedness Task Force

The Department participates in the Sussex County Domestic Preparedness Task Force (DPTF), a diverse group of county professionals representing emergency management (OEM), County Health, law enforcement, hospitals, mental health providers and local businesses. The DPTF meets regularly to share preparedness activities, enhance communications and plan for upcoming exercises.

Equipment

The Department continues to acquire equipment designed to enhance Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) including HAZMAT equipment, computers and cell phones.

Staff

The Department maintains a full time Public Health Emergency Preparedness staff, funded by the federal government through a Core Capacity for Bioterrorism Preparedness grant. This team is dedicated to enhancing the county's preparedness in the event of a health emergency.
