Deckertown Union and Papakating Cemetery, Wantage (2019)
The Deckertown Union & Papakating Cemetery is one of the oldest active cemeteries in the State of New Jersey. The first deed dates back to 1799. The oldest legible marker is dated 1794. Two Churches once stood on the grounds, dating from the late 1700's to 1872. Laid to rest on the grounds are 6 Revolutionary War Patriots, Veterans of the War of 1812, American Civil War, Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War along with Peace Time Veterans are also among those buried here along with many Sussex County residents. The Deckertown Union Cemetery Association was formed in 1872 and has continued to the present day, all are volunteers.
