Petillo and Fantasia to Lead Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders in 2020

The Sussex County Historic Court House in Newton was the setting for the Annual Reorganization Meeting of the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders on Thursday, January 2, 2020. Thursday's meeting saw the swearing in of one new Freeholder, a new Freeholder Director, a Deputy Director and the County Sheriff.

New Faces for 2020:

Joining the Board for a 3-year term after his victory in November's election is Mr. Anthony Fasano, the youngest Freeholder in the State. Anthony got his start in public service shortly after high school when he was elected to the Hopatcong Board of Education in 2013 at 19 years old. There he served in various roles including Policy Committee Chairman, Public Relations Committee Chairman, Vice President and President which he held for the final four years of his tenure. During his time on the board Hopatcong Schools implemented full-day kindergarten, a district-wide laptop initiative, massive security enhancements, new leadership and new student offerings while the district saw improvement without any tax increases during his presidency. Following his election to the Board of Chosen Freeholders, he has pledged to focus on the future of Sussex County.

Syvia Petillo was sworn in for a second term as Freeholder and Michael Strada was sworn in for a fourth term as Sussex County Sheriff.

New Positions on the Board:

Sylvia Petillo was appointed Freeholder Director and Dawn Fantasia was appointed Deputy Director. 2020 is the first time two females have had leadership positions on the board.

Also returning to the Board in 2020:

Freeholder Herbert Yardley has served on the Board of Chosen Freeholders since January of 2018 and Freeholder Joshua L. Hertzberg has served on the Board of Chosen Freeholders since January of 2019.

Regular meetings of the Board of Chosen Freeholders are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month (unless otherwise noticed) at 6 p.m., in the Freeholder Meeting Room, Sussex County Administrative Center, One Spring Street, Newton, New Jersey. The public is invited to attend.
