Eligible Seniors Can Receive Free Produce Through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides individuals who are age 60+ and who meet the financial eligibility, with $30.00 worth of vouchers to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farm stands in New Jersey.

Eligible Seniors Can Receive Free Produce Through The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program

(Newton, NJ) The Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Senior Services is pleased to announce the availability of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program for 2020. The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides individuals who are age 60+ and who meet the financial eligibility, with $30.00 worth of vouchers to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farm stands in New Jersey. There are many local, community farms that participate in the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program and each qualified individual will receive a complete list of the farm stands with their voucher package.

The Sussex County Division of Senior Services will be distributing the vouchers by appointment only in order to ensure the safety of everyone during the current public health crisis. Distribution will be done at the Senior Services office. No walk-ins please. Currently, to be eligible, a senior's income cannot exceed $23,107 annually if single, or $31,284 if married, and they must be a Sussex County resident. Effective July 1, 2020, new income limits will be implemented, therefore, please check back with the Division of Senior Services for the new limits if you are not eligible at this time. In order to complete an application, seniors must provide proof of age, income and residency. A driver's license or utility/phone bill is acceptable proof of residency and age. A 2019 income tax return, social security benefit statement, current pay stub or valid food stamp/SNAP verification is acceptable means to prove income eligibility. Please note that the PAAD card is no longer acceptable as proof of eligibility.

The Sussex County Division of Senior Services urges all eligible seniors to participate in this program.If you do not have the ability to make an appointment and come into our office, homebound seniors who qualify may receive vouchers through a proxy.
