Winter Events at the Sussex County Library System
Meet the Masters Art Program at the Sussex County Libraries, January 17-23
Newton, NJ – The Sussex County Library System is pleased to announce a new art appreciation program for kids in first grade and above. Meet the Masters Art Program introduces children to a new artist each month. Participants will view famous works, discuss the unique techniques used to create them, and then try those techniques to make their own masterworks.
Meet the Masters will be held at the Louise Childs Branch in Hopatcong on January 17 at 4:00 pm, Main Library in Frankford on January 21 at noon, and the Dennis Branch in Newton on January 23 at 4:30 pm. The artist for January is Vincent van Gogh.
Space is limited to 10 children at each location. Registration is online through the Events Calendar at sussexcountylibrary.org or by calling or visiting your local Branch.
Potluck Book Chat at Main Library, January 17
Frankford, NJ - A potluck lunch and book chat will be held at the Main Library in Frankford on Tuesday, January 17 at 1 p.m. Adults are invited to bring a covered dish, and share the company and conversation of other book lovers. "Unlike a regular book club where you have assigned reading to sit and discuss, our luncheons give you the chance to talk about your literary loves and try to persuade others to add them to their reading lists. It's a great way to learn about authors and genres you may not have considered, and it's always fun to persuade someone else to read your favorite book," stated Reference Librarian and potluck organizer Beverly Rowan. Register through the Events Calendar link at www.sussexcountylibrary.org or by calling the Main Library at 973 948-3660.

Preschool Storytimes include more advanced stories and simple crafts for children getting ready for Kindergarten.

Chill Out and Read @ Your Local Library
Newton, NJ – There's no better way to spend a cold winter day than curling up with a good book. And during the Chill Out and Read winter reading program at the Sussex County Libraries, reading pays off in other ways.
Beginning January 9 children in preschool through 3rd grade can collect different brag tags for every week they read at least one book. Older children and adults can win Amazon gift cards. Each book read equals one raffle ticket, and three Amazon gift cards will be awarded at each Branch. Readers are welcome to increase their chances (and their browsing selections) by entering at more than one Branch, but can only win once.
Registration begins January 3 and can be done in person or online through the library's website, sussexcountylibrary.org. All log sheets and raffle tickets must be turned in by February 4th and all prizes will be awarded the following week.
