Basic Computer Skills Classes offered through the Sussex County Library System
Newton, NJ - Today's job market demands basic computer literacy. Your local library is here to help. Every Wednesday afternoon, September 19-October 24, essential computer skills classes will be held at the Dennis Branch Library, 101 Main Street in Newton, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Each class focuses on a different aspect of computer literacy as it relates to finding and attaining employment. Participants need not attend all six sessions and can choose the classes that best fit their needs. Library laptops will be available for use on a first-come, first-served basis and participants needing a laptop are encouraged to register in advance by calling Career Connections Associate Julie Knapp at 973 948-3660 ext. 3409.
September 19 - Intro to Computers starts with the very basics including finding the power button, understanding the keyboard and using the mouse.
September 26 - The Internet and Email is an overview of search engines, setting up and accessing email, and basic browsing and email security.
October 3 - Intro to Microsoft Word is an overview of all the Microsoft Office programs with a focus on using Word to create, edit and save documents.
October 10 - Creating a Resume in Microsoft Word will be a hands-on resume building class. Participants will leave with a basic, working resume that can be tailored to different job opportunities.
October 17 - Online Job Search introduces employment search engines and job boards, as well as ways to use social media in your job search, and how to avoid common scams.
October 26 - Online Job Applications prepares you to have all the necessary paperwork on hand for completing online job applications, plus useful tips for answering commonly asked assessment questions.
These free classes are made possible by a Career Connections Grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. In addition to Essential Computer Skills, the Sussex County Library System also hosts classes on using LinkedIn, networking, mock interview practice and much more.
