Glen Vetrano Honored by the Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross

Freeholder Director Glen Vetrano was honored Friday evening, October 16, 2009, at Perona Farms during the 16th Annual Mrs. Joseph P. Quinn, Sr. Award Celebration, as the recipient of the prestigious "Quinn Award" for 2009.

This special award is given in memory of Mrs. Joseph P. Quinn, Sr., who founded the Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1917. The "Quinn Award" is presented in recognition of the same spirit of giving to the community that characterized its founder and the significant contributions the recipient has made to the American Red Cross.

Patricia Day, Executive Director of the Sussex County Chapter, stated that Glen Vetrano was chosen for his exceptional leadership of the "Heroes Campaign" and his outstanding work for the community at large, noting that the Campaign could not have had a more energetic or dedicated Chairman. Glen understands and appreciates the value of the Red Cross and the importance of the humanitarian services it provides.

Serving as Chairman of the "Heroes Campaign" for the American Red Cross, Glen organized a grass roots campaign months before the kick-off of the March event, raising public awareness of the financial plight facing the Sussex County Chapter. As a result of his motivation and genuine concern for the future of the Red Cross and the community it serves, $60,000.00 was successfully raised through the efforts of local "Heroes" and the overwhelming generosity of the public. Numerous fundraising events were held, ranging from pie sales to local restaurant and business participation, anonymous donors, and even persons walking in from the street to make a donation, all contributing to the tremendous success of this worthy campaign.

Freeholder Vetrano stated "I'm honored to be presented with the "Quinn Award" and feel extremely privileged to have served as Chairman of the "Heroes Campaign"; a Campaign that would not have achieved its great success without the generosity of our families, friends, and neighbors, fueled by the feelings of pride and community shared by our County residents. This award represents to me all of the "Heroes" who made a difference."

Congratulations to Glen Vetrano – Recipient of the 2009 "Quinn Award"

"Making a positive difference in Sussex County through his selfless acts of volunteerism and spirit of community."
