Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Wendell Bates, who appeared before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on December 2, 2021.
Bates, age 55 of Westminster, Maryland, was sentenced to two years of probation. He was ordered to immediately pay restitution of $479.59, submit a DNA sample and pay fines and fees totaling $280.00.
He pled guilty on September 22, 2021, to Conspiracy and Shoplifting, both third degree crimes.
The defendant was complicit in taking merchandise from the Hampton Walmart on January 27, 2018, without paying.
Bates was represented by William J. Oake, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
