Sussex County Introduces New Alliance Coordinator

Nick Loizzi

On February 1, 2013, the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Community and Youth Services welcomed Wantage resident Nicholas (Nick) Loizzi, as County Municipal Alliance Coordinator.

Nick had served for 25 years with the Rutherford Police Department. In 1989 he was chosen to be among the first D.A.R.E. Officers in New Jersey being trained by a cadre of officers from the Los Angeles Police Department where D.A.R.E. was first introduced. He coordinated the Rutherford D.A.R.E. program for ten years. Nick is also a certified Community Policing Officer and has received awards for original Community Policing programs. He was a founding member of the Rutherford Police Department Community Policing Unit.

His career path led him to be the Chairman of the Rutherford Municipal Alliance Committee from 1993 to 2001. His experience there gave him a great deal of insight and experience with conducting needs assessments, preparing grant applications, as well as developing, implementing and coordinating programs and preparing and filing the necessary follow-up documentation for Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA). "We are excited about Nick becoming a member of our Human Services team. He will bring energy and innovation to the Alliance Program," said Stephen Gruchacz, Administrator for the Sussex County Department of Human Services.

Nick is a graduate of Sussex County Community College, Felician College and Seton Hall University. He has lived in Wantage since 2004 with his wife, Kim, of 25 years and three children: Danielle, Nicholas III and Brian.

"I'm excited about the challenges and opportunities that the County Coordinator's position will present to me. I look forward to working with the Municipal Alliances throughout Sussex County and all the volunteers associated with them as well as developing and implementing Countywide programs."
