Sussex County Joins in the Outreach to Enroll Children in NJ FamilyCare
The State of New Jersey is a leader in advocating for every eligible child in the state to have health insurance. In June of this year, Governor Corzine announced $286 million for New Jersey’s Children's Health Insurance Program, which is known as NJ FamilyCare. This funding is a portion of $6 billion in new federal funding and a result of President Obama’s Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA) that was signed in February 2009. Among other methods, New Jersey is using the “Express Lane Eligibility” in order to reach as many children as possible. The Express Lane Eligibility gives states the option to have children be found income-eligible for NJ FamilyCare or Medicaid based on gross or adjusted gross income by NJ State income tax returns. NJ FamilyCare is a state and federally funded health insurance program. It provides uninsured children and some low income parents free or low cost health insurance. According to New Jersey, 580,000 children are enrolled.
Human Services Commissioner, Jennifer Velez, has stated the importance of local governments, businesses, schools, hospitals, community & faith-based groups helping to enroll income-eligible children in NJ FamilyCare. Realizing that this endeavor takes partnerships, the County of Sussex wants to get the word out about this wonderful opportunity for income-eligible families. Please view the FamilyCare public service announcement below. The NJ FamilyCare application form is available here. Applications will also be brought to county advisory board meetings in order to reach the human services community.
