Community Awareness Bulletin - Bath Salts

Release Date: March 18, 2020

March 17, 2020

****COMMUNITY AWARENESS BULLETIN****

Bath Salts

The Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Substance Abuse and Alcohol Services has been made aware of a recent increase in the use of bath salts in the County and are producing this bulletin to raise public awareness.

Synthetic cathinones, otherwise known as "bath salts" have been classified as a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance by the State of New Jersey since 2011 (https://www.nj.gov/oag/newsreleases11/pr20110428a.html external link) and were outlawed by former Governor Chris Christie when he signed "Pamela's Law".

Despite the ban and the laws in place, bath salts are still available. Until recently, the use and incidents involving people under their influence seemed to be decreasing. While the increase in the use of bath salts is not significant at this time, the Office of Substance Abuse and Alcohol Services wants to raise awareness and remind the public of the dangers they present.
