The 13th Annual Sussex County Heritage Weekend sponsored by the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council will be held over October 7th & 8th, 2023.
On that Saturday and Sunday, historical museums and heritage organizations will join with the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council for their annual Heritage Weekend. Take this opportunity to discover the many varied facets of history and culture within Sussex County.
Many of Sussex County's volunteer-run historical sites will welcome residents and visitors alike. This year's participating historic sites are:
Branchville Borough's Historical Museum, Byram's Roseville Schoolhouse Museum, Franklin's Heritage Museum, Hardyston’s Old Monroe School House, Lafayette’s Ludlum-Mabee House, Lake Hopatcong’s Historical Museum, Newton’s Hill Memorial Museum, Ogdensburg’s Old Schoolhouse and Firehouse Museum, Peters Valley School of Craft Gallery, , Sparta's Van Kirk Homestead Museum and the Sparta Train Station, Stillwater's Historical Museum, Vernon’s Price’s Switch Schoolhouse, Walpack’s Van Campen Inn and Walpack Center’s village, Wantage’s Old Clove Church and the DAR’s Elias Van Bunschooten Museum.
Visit the Waterloo Village Historic Site, drive over the Western Highlands Scenic Byway, and stroll the White Deer Plaza and Boardwalk Historic District. Tour these Historic Districts: Newton Town Plot, Lafayette Village, Peters Valley, Walpack Center, and Old Mine Road. Hike our trails and visit our local State Parks, including High Point State Park & New Jersey Veterans Memorial.
Our historical society run sites do not charge admission during this weekend - but appreciate donations to support their efforts. A few may offer a special presentation or exhibit. Days and hours vary as all are based on available coverage. Local farms and farm markets that reflect our agricultural heritage are noted. There will be one day festivals on Spring St. in Newton and in Stillwater.
All information is noted on the interactive map.
