Newton NJ – Beginning March 14 all Sussex County Library System (SCLS) locations will participate in the Trex® Plastic Film Recycling Challenge. The goal: collect and recycle 500 pounds of polyethylene plastic film to be given new life as a comfortable, attractive bench.

“The theme for our upcoming Summer Reading program (spoiler alert!) is Oceans of Possibilities,” stated Library Director Will Porter. “Keeping 500 pounds of plastic out of our oceans and landfills is a great start to our summer events.”

Special recycle bins will be located in the lobby area of each SCLS location from March 14 until the 500 pound goal is achieved. All plastic must be clean, dry and free of food residue. Plastic film items include – grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, plastic shipping envelopes, reclosable food storage bags, cereal bags, case overwrap, salt bags, pallet wrap and stretch film and wood pellet bags. More detail on all the types of qualifying plastic film can be found at recycle.trex.com.
