In the midst of the first pandemic in 100 years, we have found ourselves more alert to the idea of germs and how they spread.  Germs can spread through the air and on surfaces, which cause us to come in contact with many germs throughout the day.  Most germs are harmless, but some can make you very sick.  COVID-19 is a germ or virus that can make you sick.  Although the world has recently focused on this one germ, it is important to remember there are many more that can make you sick!

You should especially remember to wash your hands:

  • Before, during, and after preparing food
  • Before and after eating food
  • Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick with vomiting or diarrhea
  • Before and after treating a cut or wound
  • After using the toilet
  • After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
  • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
  • After handling pet food or pet treats
  • After touching garbage

Washing your hands is a simple task, but it is important to remember how to do it correctly.

  1. Wet your hands
  2. Apply soap and lather on your hands
  3. Scrub your hands for AT LEAST 20 seconds
  4. Rinse your hands
  5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dryer
