Kevin D. Kelly Is Appointed Sussex County Counsel

The Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders has announced the appointment of Kevin D. Kelly, Esq. as County Counsel. The appointment is for a three year period, which officially began on July 1, 2018.

(Newton, NJ) The Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders has announced the appointment of Kevin D. Kelly, Esq. as County Counsel. The appointment is for a three year period, which officially began on July 1, 2018.

Mr. Kelly joins the County with 39 years of private-practice located in Sussex County with a focus on municipal and government law, land use and development projects and civil litigation. Mr. Kelly is a graduate of Pope John XXII High School and received his undergraduate degree from LaSalle University (B.A.). He was then awarded a Juris Doctorate degree from South Texas College of Law (J.D.) and received the Diploma in Municipal Law from Rutgers University.

From 1979 through 1986 Mr. Kelly served as an Assistant County Prosecutor. In addition to serving as County Counsel, he will continue the private practice of law at Kelly and Ward, LLC with partner Megan A. Ward.

Mr. Kelly received the New Jersey Law Journal's Lawyer of the Year Award in 2010, and the Sussex County Bar Association's Law Day Award in 2018. He says, "For someone who grew up in this County and practiced law here for 39 years, it is a particular honor to serve in this position."

Kelly also stated "In returning the Office of the County Counsel to part-time attorneys, the Freeholders have created the opportunity for us to utilize the special skills and services of multiple local counsels on an as needed basis."
