   (Hampton Township, NJ)         “Project Healthy Bones”is a low impact exercise program for women and men of any age who have been diagnosed with, or who are at risk for, osteoporosis.  Today, more than 44 million Americans have, or are at risk for osteoporosis, a serious disease that causes bones to become thin, brittle and easily broken. Risk of osteoporosis and fractures can be lowered by participating in easy-to-do weight-bearing, resistance and balance exercises.   A new “Project Health Bones” program will start on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at 10 a.m., at the Hampton Municipal Building.   
            Project Healthy Bones” is fun! Sessions are led by trained volunteer peer leaders and have a wellness focus. The 24-week program, meets weekly for 1 ½ hours per session. Participants learn high intensity, low impact strength training exercises designed to improve or stabilize bone density; increase strength, balance and flexibility and build muscle mass.   The workshops also include valuable information about the importance of exercise, nutrition, safety, drug therapy and lifestyle factors that relate to osteoporosis. “Project Healthy Bones” is funded under Title III D the Older Americans Act, as amended, is offered at NO COST to participants. Each participant   receives weights and an exercise manual.
