Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Samantha Benson, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on January 16, 2019.
Benson, age 31 of Newton, was sentenced to five years of probation and 90 days of home detention with credit for two days of jail time. She was ordered to submit to a TASC evaluation and follow any and all recommendations made from same, attend AA meetings at least three times per week, maintain full-time employment, complete Intensive Outpatient Treatment, and pay fines and fees totaling $1,205.00.
She pled guilty on November 15, 2018, to Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a third degree crime, two Violations of Probation, and Careless Driving, a motor vehicle violation.
On June 18, 2018, the defendant was involved in a motor vehicle accident. She admitted to having heroin in her possession and to careless driving.
Benson was represented by Thomas Belsky, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
