Social Services Food Pantry Receives ShopRite Partners in Caring Donation
The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Social Services received a ShopRite Partners in Caring donation of $500 on March 16, 2011 to help in the fight against hunger in Sussex County. General Mills awarded the ShopRite of Montague an additional $1,000 to donate to the hunger charities of their choice. Through the efforts of Joseph Lashendock, who has also been instrumental in implementing food drives at ShopRite of Montague benefiting the Division of Social Service food pantry, ShopRite of Montague chose the Sussex County Division of Social Services as one of its recipients. Store Manager Tom Gillen and Store Associates Elaine Williams and Mary Ann Shininger presented Joseph Lashendock with the $500 donation to benefit the Social Services food pantry.
Since 1999, the ShopRite Partners in Caring program has donated over $22 million to help support more than 1,400 hunger-fighting charities and regional food banks. The ShopRite of Montague was one of 40 stores from five states to receive recognition from General Mills Corporation for its efforts to raise hunger awareness and to provide food for those in need. Four of the forty recognized stores are in the County of Sussex, which is truly a testimony to the generosity of the Sussex County community.
The Balesville Congregational Church has also been awarded a grant in the amount of $800 from the ShopRite Partners in Caring program. The church uses this grant to sponsor the Division of Social Services by providing a credit for food orders at the NORWESCAP Food Bank.
