Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Corey Brown, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on February 2, 2018.
Brown, age 27, of Enfield, Connecticut, was sentenced to 270 days jail time, with 8 days credit for time served, and three (3) years probation. He was also ordered to attend and complete a AAA approved driver safety course, write letters of apology to the police officers involved, pay a $1,000 fine and other mandatory fines and fees.
Brown pled guilty on December 11, 2017 to one (1) count of eluding, a third degree offense.
On September 26, 2017, Brown was observed by Sparta Township Police passing a vehicle over the double yellow line on a blind curve. When police activated overhead lights and sirens, Brown took off reaching speeds of 96 mph.
Brown was represented by John M. Breslin, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Stephanie C. LaCarrubba.
