CAGGIANO NAMED “SUSSEX COUNTY SENIOR OF THE YEAR”
(Newton, NJ) The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services has named Robert Caggiano of Hamburg "Sussex County Senior of the Year." Mr. Caggiano was chosen from a group of eight nominees who all serve as role models for other older adults by serving their communities and advocating for seniors. Nominees included Shirley Baldwin of Glenwood, Joseph Lashendock of Montague, Robert Little of Lafayette, Marco Mezzina of Hamburg, Joy Ricker of Wantage, Joan Shaw of Sparta, and Dominic Vendola of Newton.
Mr. Caggiano was honored for his service to American Legion Post 132, his church, the Franklin Band, and more. He is Assistant State Director of "Bugles Across America" and plays
"The Final Call" (Taps) during funeral and graveside services for veterans who have served our Country. His has traveled far and wide in all kinds of weather to provide this volunteer service. Mr. Caggiano also uses his musical talents performing in a Brass Quartet and Bell Choir for area nursing and retirement home residents. Finally, this Sussex County Senior of the Year has empowered older adults by teaching them computer skills.
Mr. Caggiano was commended by state and local officials during an awards ceremony during Senior Day at the NJ State Fair, on Thursday, August 12, 2010.
