(Sparta, NJ)     The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services is pleased to announce that it will be hosting FREE training for volunteers who wish to serve as Counselors for the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (S.H.I.P.)     S.H.I.P. is a statewide program sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services with major funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). S.H.I.P. provides FREE, objective, confidential help to New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries who have concerns or questions about Medicare, Medigap, Medicare Advantage Plans, Pharmaceutical Programs and Long-Term Care Insurance. 
 S.H.I.P. provides an in-depth training program designed to give volunteers the answers and resources needed to assist Medicare beneficiaries. Participants will learn the complexities of the Medicare program and related insurance plans, so they can help Medicare beneficiaries get accurate health care information.   Up-to-the-minute information is an integral part of S.H.I.P. services and ongoing support and resources keep counselors current with respect to Medicare provisions and services. The five-day training course is scheduled for September 14, 21, 28, 
October 5 and 12, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Sparta Health and Wellness Center, 89 Sparta Avenue , Sparta, NJ. Contact the S.H.I.P. office at the Division of Senior Services, One Spring Street, Newton, NJ, or call 973-579-0555, ext 1135, for additional information about the program.
