Press Release - Plea of April Smith

PRESS RELEASE

December 1, 2021

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an indictment before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on December 1, 2021, by April Smith.

     Smith, age 22 of Port Jervis, New York, pled guilty to Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a third degree crime, and Hindering Apprehension, a fourth degree crime.  Sentencing is presently anticipated for January 13, 2022.

     In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to being in possession of cocaine on February 20, 2021, and hindering her own apprehension by providing law enforcement with false information.

     The case was investigated by Tpr. Kraljevich of the New Jersey State Police. 

     Smith was represented by Matthew Young, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
