National Public Health Week is April 6-12, 2020

Join the Sussex County Division of Health, Office of Public Health Nursing in observing National Public Health Week during the week of April 6-12, 2020.

Each year, the American Public Health Association observes National Public Health Week to recognize the contributions made by public health professionals and organizations, and identify issues that are vital to improving the health of our nation.

Whether it is in our homes, in our workplace, or in our greater community, we can all make decisions with the health of the public in mind and advocate for positive change.

Take a look at the National Public Health Week 2020 themes, and identify how you can make a difference - even if it is just starting a conversation. Together, we can build healthier communities, and eventually the healthiest nation.

This year's themes are:

Monday: Mental Health:

• Advocate for and promote emotional well-being.

Tuesday: Maternal and Child Health

• Ensure the health of mothers and babies throughout the lifespan.

Wednesday: Violence Prevention

• Reduce personal and community violence to improve health.

Thursday: Environmental Health

• Help protect and maintain a healthy planet.

Friday: Education

• Advocate for quality education and schools.

Saturday: Healthy Housing

• Ensure access to affordable and safe housing.

Sunday: Economics

• Advocate for economic empowerment as the key to a healthy life.

The Division of Health serves as Sussex County's local public health department and has made it our mission to protect, promote, maintain and improve the health and quality of life for our community through a responsive, well-managed and organized effort.
