Home Detention Program

On December 15, 2010, it will be one year since the closing of the Sussex County Juvenile Detention Center and the inception of the Sussex County Home Detention Program (HDP). The HDP provides daily face to face contact with its clients, 24 hour electronic monitoring through GPS tracking, and case management services; helping to link the client to community based services mandated by Family Court. Additionally, the HDP staff ensures the client is in compliance with court ordered treatment by removing transportation barriers.

To date, the HDP has served 64 juveniles within Sussex County. Through daily supervisions and case management, assistance with transportation, and random drug screens, the HDP strives to reduce the number of violations of probation and connect the juvenile and his/her family to community based services. The HDP has received positive feedback among the families it has served. One parent responded to a parent survey as saying, "They were positive role models, demonstrated a good attitude, spoke with respect but authority, and showed interest in my child as a person."
