     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of April Smith, who appeared before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on January 13, 2022.

 

     Smith, age 22 of Port Jervis, New York, was sentenced to three years of probation concurrent with probation in Pennsylvania.  She was ordered to submit to a TASC evaluation and follow any and all recommendations made from same, perform 25 hours of community service work, submit a DNA sample and pay fines and fees totaling $1,330.00.                

 

     She pled guilty on December 1, 2021, to Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, a third degree crime, and Hindering Apprehension, a fourth degree crime.  

 

     The defendant was in possession of cocaine on February 20, 2021, and hindered her own apprehension by providing law enforcement with false information.

 

     Smith was represented by Matthew Young, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
