US Cadet Nurse Corps to be Parade Grand Marshals

Release Date: October 13, 2009

US Cadet Nurse Corps to be Parade Grand Marshals
(Augusta, NJ)      Members of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps will be the Grand Marshals of the parade at Sussex County’s 9th Annual Salute to Military Veterans that will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2009, at 2 p.m., at the Sussex County Fairgrounds.  These “Forgotten Angels” comprised the largest and youngest group of uniformed women to serve their Country during WWII and the early postwar years. For several years, this group has sought veteran status but, as of this date, that goal has not been accomplished.
Those who served in the US Cadet Nurse Corps are asked to contact the Sussex County Division of Senior Services to identify themselves so that they can be acknowledged.   Vehicles will be available for those who are unable to walk the parade route.
All “Women in the Military,” whether Veterans or on active duty, are also encouraged to participate in the Salute and make themselves known to the Veterans Committee by contacting the Sussex County Division of Senior Services.   “We would like to honor all Women in the Military this year. Even our essay contest is based on this theme. It is time to acknowledge females for their dedication and service to this Country,” said Mary Lou Schnurr, Director of Senior Services, on behalf of the Veterans Committee.
The 9th Annual Salute to Military Veterans is a FREE event honoring all Veterans and includes a fly-over of World War II military aircraft and a POW/MIA ceremony. Following the parade, there will be exhibits, entertainment and complementary refreshments.   Any Vteran who would like to participate and needs special assistance should contact the Sussex County Division of Senior Services.
