The County of Sussex is Awarded Two Grants Totaling $130,969.00 to Support Several Shared Service Initiatives

New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Director, Joseph V Doria, Jr., announced that Sussex County was awarded two separate "Sharing Available Resources Efficiently "or "SHARE" grants, totaling $130,969.00.

The "SHARE" grants were awarded to assist in the transition of and to facilitate the County of Sussex in providing core health Services to the Township of Vernon. The amount awarded was $119,669.00. Specifically the funding will be used to purchase vehicles, field equipment, and office equipment and will also fund the purging and electronic management of the existing Vernon Township Health records. Vernon township officials reported the shared service agreement with the county saved $350,000.00.

The second "SHARE" grant awarded was to assist the transition of the Sussex County, Division of Engineering, Office of Bridge and Traffic Safety, in providing street and road sign manufacturing services to municipalities within Sussex County. The amount awarded was $11,300.00. The funding will be used to purchase equipment to upgrade the County sign shop. Recently Andover Township, Andover Borough and Byram Township have entered into shared service agreements for street and road sign manufacturing with the county. The reported savings of the sign manufacturing agreements resulted in approximately 50% of each municipality's annual costs for signs.

Shared Services Coordinator, Keith A. Armstrong describes the awards as a "Win, Win "situation. "Not only are the residents of Sussex County saving money through the shared services agreement, the programs are being funded through state grant funding".
