Summer Reading Programs and Prizes Running Through August 7
Newton, NJ - The Sussex County Library System (SCLS) Tails and Tales Summer Reading program is underway! From now through August 7 participants can log reading minutes; and earn bonus points for attending programs, writing book reviews, and completing online challenges. Every 50 minutes of reading and/or 50 bonus points equals a raffle ticket that can be entered to win a wide variety of prizes from craft supplies for children, to a Crystal Springs gift certificate for adults. There is no limit to the number of tickets participants can earn and enter!
“Programming has been tricky this year,” stated Library Director Will Porter. “But the challenge of either doing things virtually on Zoom or hosting programs outside has inspired our staff to new levels of creativity. The Tails and Tales theme comes to life with everything from actual adoption events partnering with Father Johns Animal House, to an Animals Never Forget game night via Zoom. There are also outdoor storytimes at every location, lit walks for adults, read-to-a dog programs, take and make crafts – over 100 programs and things to do through August 7. All of which encourage a trip to the library, promote reading, and prevent the dreaded summer slide that can occur when kids take a vacation from books all summer.”
All SCLS cardholders are invited to register for summer reading through the library website, sussexcountylibrary.org/summer21, or in person at their local branch. Reading and participation points are logged through a program called READsquared, available for use on a computer desktop, or as a free download from the App Store and Google Play. All SCLS location are fully open from 9:00-4:45 Monday-Saturday, plus one evening at each location. Stop by your local branch or go online to sussexcountylibrary.org for more details.
