Hurricane Preparedness

Release Date: August 24, 2011
"Preventing the loss of life and minimizing the damage to property from hurricanes are responsibilities that are shared by all."

Hurricane Preparedness

As the forecast continues to predict the arrival of Hurricane Irene this weekend, residents are reminded to become familiar with two programs that will assist them not only during hurricanes, but during other times of emergency. Both "Outbound 9-1-1" and "Register Ready" can be found on the Sheriff's Website at www.sussexcountysheriff.com and on the County website at www.sussex.nj.us. All hard-wired telephones in Sussex County are already in "Outbound 9-1-1" but people may want to register their cell phones, as well. "Register Ready" is a program that allows residents with special needs and their families, friends and associates an opportunity to provide information to emergency response agencies, so emergency responders can better plan to serve them in a disaster or other emergency.

"Preventing the loss of life and minimizing the damage to property from hurricanes are responsibilities that are shared by all."

Please visit the Hurricane Preparedness page at the National Hurricane Center for information on hurricane preparedness and Register Ready at www.registerready.nj.gov.
