The mission of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is to engage volunteers to strengthen public health, emergency response and community resiliency.

MRC units are community-based and function as a way to locally organize and utilize volunteers who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies and promote healthy living throughout the year. MRC volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources. Medical Reserve Corps on hhs.gov external link

The MRC is a partner program with Citizen Corps external link, a national network of volunteers dedicated to ensuring hometown security. Citizen Corps, along with AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and the Peace Corps promote volunteerism and service nationwide.

The citizens of New Jersey need your help. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services recognizes that, in the event of a public health emergency, volunteers are our most valuable resource. New Jersey has made great strides in creating the plans and infrastructure necessary to prepare for and respond to a public health emergency. However, we need to identify a dedicated group of individuals that can be relied upon in the event of a bioterrorist or natural disaster to help put our plans into action.

The Sussex County Division of Emergency Management and the Division of Health are working together to recruit and identify those community members interested in volunteering before an emergency happens.
