Each municipality has its own bridge code. For example, bridge E-04 is in Franklin Borough.

(4/25/2017) Project Update Notice: FY 2015 Sussex County Resurfacing Program

Please see attached for the most recent update notice regarding the FY 2015 Sussex County Resurfacing Program. Milling and paving has been completed on CR 675 and CR 631. Traffic stripes and core drilling are in progress. Due to an emergency demobilization of the contractor, work will resume on or about Monday May 8, 2017 on CR 610 a.k.a. Fredon Stillwater Road.


(4/21/2017) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge Q-06 Main Street Sparta Township Bridge Q-06, Main Street over Wallkill River

The preliminary design of the project is advancing. Aesthetic bridge elements are being developed and will be presented to the Sparta Town Council. A utility meeting was held on site on April 11th and a NJDEP pre-application meeting is scheduled for the first week of May. See the attached public notice for more information regarding this project.


(4/21/2017) Reconstruction and Realignment of Sussex County Bridge X-09 CR 565 Wantage Township

Bridge X-09, County Route 565 over the Papakating Creek, Wantage Township The Public Information Center for the project, held at the Sussex-Wantage Library on April 13th, was well attended. Design plans and specifications for the project are at approximately 90% complete and it is expected the project will advertise for public bidding this summer. See the attached public notice for more information with regard to the project.


(4/21/2017) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge C-17 Roseville Road Byram Township Bridge C-17, Roseville Road over Lackawanna Cutoff

The bridge wingwall parapets and pylons are under construction and the precast concrete arch sections are in fabrication. See the attached public notice for more information with regard to the project.


(4/20/2017) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge O-07 - Passaic Avenue - Ogdensburg Borough

The Bridge O-07 construction is progressing with the installation of the studs on the steel sheet piles being complete. The Contractor is installing the rebar for the concrete fascia on the steel sheet piles. Please see attached public notice for additional information regarding the Replacement of Bridge O-07.


(4/13/2017) CR-613 - White Deer Plaza Median Reconstruction, Lake Mohawk in Sparta Twp.

Attached is a project notice for the above referenced project. Please be advised that work is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 17, 2017 and to last for up to a week (weather permitting). See the attached public notice for additional information.

(1/20/2017) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge Q-06 Main Street Sparta Township Bridge Q-06, Main Street over Wallkill River

A design contract has been awarded to Keller & Kirkpatrick, Inc., for development of construction plans and specifications for the Replacement of Bridge Q-06. It is the County's intention to award a construction contract for the project in the fall of 2018 with construction to commence summer 2019. Project status updates will be issued periodically as the project progresses. See the attached public notice for more information regarding this project.


(11/10/2016) Project Update Notice: FY 2015 Sussex County High Risk Rural Roads Program

Please find attached the most recent update notice for the Sussex County 2015 HRRRP. Guide rail upgrades have been completed on CR 622 and CR 653. Sign upgrades are progressing.


(11/08/2016) CR-517 & CR-669 Gas Main Trench repairs

Attached is an updated Public Notice in reference to the Gas main trench repairs along County Routes 517, Decker Pond Road and County Route 669, Limecrest Road. All predetermined 18" removal and replacement areas have been completed. At the request of Elizabethtown Gas Company, and consideration of the Sussex County Department of Engineering, the 2" mill and pave has been postponed until the spring of 2017. At that time, an updated pubic announcement will be distributed.


(10/28/2016) Project Completion Notice: 2016 Sussex County Striping Program

Please find attached the completion notice for the 2016 Sussex County Striping Program. Program was completed on October 17, 2016.


(10/19/2016) Project Startup Notice: FY 2015 Sussex County Resurfacing Program

In response to the resolution of the shutdown of all Transportation Trust Fund Projects, construction on this project shall resume/begin, weather permitting, tomorrow October 20th on CR 623 a.k.a. Lawrence Road in Andover Township. For additional information regarding this project, please refer to the attached public notice.


(10/5/2016) Sussex County Bridge V-15 Repairs - Sand Hill Road - Vernon Township

Please be advised that as of Tuesday October 4, 2016 Sand Hill Road has been fully opened to traffic at Bridge V-15. All construction activities have been completed. For additional information regarding the repairs to Bridge V-15, please see the attached public notice.


(9/14/2016) Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge E-04 - CR 631 (Franklin Avenue) - Franklin Borough

Please be advised as of 12:00PM, today, Wednesday, September 14, 2016, CR 631 (Franklin Avenue) at Bridge E-04 has been opened to all traffic. All construction activities have been completed and only a few punch list items remain. All previously installed weight restrictions on the bridge have been removed. For additional information regarding the Rehabilitation of Bridge E-04, please see the attached public notice.


(9/9/2016) Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge P-36, CR-646 (a.k.a. Jager Road) in Sandyston Twp.

As of Friday, September 2, 2016, CR-646 (Jager Road) has been open to traffic at Bridge P-36. For additional information regarding the Rehabilitation of Bridge P-36, please see the attached public notice.


(9/9/2016) Rehabilitation of Bridge S-10, CR-617 (Fairview Lake Road) in Stillwater Township

As of today, Friday September 9, 2016, CR-617 (Fairview Lake Road) at Bridge S-10 has been opened to traffic. All construction activities have been completed and only a few final punch list items remain. (9/1/2016) Rehabilitation of Railroad Spur Crossing - Limecrest Road - CR669 - Lafayette Township

Attached is a final construction notice for the above referenced project. Please be advised that construction was completed this morning and the road was re-opened. CR-669 (Limecrest Road) is now opened to through traffic at the rehabilitation location (RR Tracks). Detour signs will be removed. Work was completed by Braen Stone Industries, or their designees using private funds under the authorization of a Sussex County Road Opening permit.


(8/19/2016) Project Update Notice: 2016 Sussex County Micro Surfacing

Please find attached the most recent project update notice for the subject project.

Micro Surfacing has been completed on CR 517 and temporary centerline placed. Micro Surfacing on CR 620 should be completed on Monday August 22, 2016, weather pending. Placement of permanent traffic stripes and markings will be scheduled within two weeks following.

(12/04/2015) Bridge S-25, CR-622 (Newton-Swartswood Rd) Weight Posting Reduction Please see attached for a public notice regarding the pending reduction of weight posting of Sussex County Bridge S-25 on CR-622 (a.k.a. Newton-Swartswood Road) in the Swartswood section of Stillwater. Installation of revised bridge weight limit signs will commence as soon as sign fabrication is complete and all utility markouts have cleared. If you have any questions or concerns with regard to this load posting or the bridge structure, please feel free to contact the Sussex County Division of Engineering.


(11/5/2015) Bridge B-10, Recreational Road (a.k.a. County Fairgrounds Road) - Opening & Weight Posting


Please be advised that on or about Monday, November 9, 2015, Bridge B-10 in the Borough of Branchville will be weight posted at 4 tons and opened to weight restricted traffic. Please see the attached public notice for additional information regarding this weight posting.

(2/15/2013) Bridge X-20 Closed - Wantage Township Carrying Berry Road over a Tributary of the West Branch of the Papakating Creek. Damage sustained during the storms of 2011 and subsequent storm events (Hurricane Sandy and other significant flows) have resulted in continued deterioration of the masonry substructure and roadway embankments at Bridge X-20. In the interest of public safety Bridge X-20 has been closed pending construction of a full bridge replacement.

Standard Construction Details
These details have been developed by the Sussex County Division of Engineering to augment, and as appropriate replace, the New Jersey Department of Transportation Standard Construction Details.

Land Development Standards
Provide rules, regulations, and standards for site plans and subdivisions and procedures for review of site plans and subdivisions within the County's jurisdiction.

About 

The Sussex County Division of Engineering is charged with overseeing the numerous facets associated with maintaining, improving, and monitoring the County's Transportation network. The Division works closely with the Division of Facilities Management providing project support and civil/survey design services for a variety of facility related capital improvement projects. Additionally, the Division of Engineering provides technical support to the Division of Planning.

Included within the Department's responsibilities are tasks such as in-house design of road and bridge improvement projects, management of multimillion dollar design projects, monitoring the condition of bridges; signals; signs; traffic markings and other similar infrastructure items, developing long term capital budgets, construction stakeout, ROW surveys, management of county road and bridge construction projects, track traffic trends, and monitor work within the county right of way through road opening and driveway permits.
