(8/28/2015) Bridge M-10 Repairs - CR-653 (Clove Road)

Sussex County Bridge M-10 Repairs
CR-653 (Clove Road), Montague Township


Attached is a project notice for repairs to Sussex County Bridge M-10 on CR-653 (Clove Road) in Montague Township. Please be advised that construction is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, August 31 and last for approximately 3-4 weeks.

During the course of the project, work zone traffic will be managed by reducing the roadway near the bridge to a Single-Lane, Two-Way road. Alternating traffic through the Single-Lane, Two-Way section of road will be controlled by temporary traffic signals. NO full road closure of CR-653 is anticipated during construction.

(8/25/2015) Roadway Opening - County Route 607, a.k.a. Maxim Drive, Retaining Wall Project

Retaining Wall Replacement
CR-607 (a.k.a. Maxim Drive) Hopatcong Borough


As of 9:00 AM today, Tuesday, August 25, 2015, the Contractor has reopened CR-607 (Maxim Drive) in Hopatcong at the location of the retaining wall replacement project.
Work on the project is substantially complete with work only remaining to complete the chain link fence atop the retaining wall and minor punch list items. Any remaining work will take place along the roadway shoulders with no anticipated impacts to traffic.

(8/25/2015) Project Update Notice: 2014 High Risk Rural Road Program

Please be advised the contractor will not be working on Saturday August 29 as indicated in the update notice distributed earlier this week.

Please find attached the most current update notice for the 2014 High Risk Rural Road Program. Micro Surfacing on CR 560 should be completed tomorrow and move to CR 519 on Thursday August 27 where it is expected to last 5 days including Saturday August 29. EXPECT DELAYS – work will continue to be completed under single lane closures from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.


(8/24/2015) Project Update: 2015 Sussex County Crack Sealing Program Please find attached the most recent Project Update Notice for the 2015 Sussex County Crack Sealing Program. Currently the operation is active on CR 653 Clove Road in Montague Township. The crew will continue to follow the work queue in the order listed on the notice.


(8/24/2015) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge O-07 - Passaic Avenue - Ogdensburg Borough
The design of the Replacement of Sussex County Bridge O-07 is progressing. The NJDEP Permits have been acquired and the 90% progress plans and specifications are almost complete. Please see the attached public notice for additional information regarding this project.


(8/24/2015) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge D-12 Stempert Road Frankford Township Bridge D-12, Stempert Road over Culver Creek
Concrete for the north and south pedestals has been placed. Stripping formwork and concrete finish work is underway as well as installation of backfill material. The cofferdam sheeting will be cut to a specified grade and left in place. See the attached public notice for more information regarding this project.


(8/24/2015) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge C-17 Roseville Road Byram Township Bridge C-17, Roseville Road over Lackawanna Cutoff
The 60% progress plans are complete and were submitted to NJ Transit for review. A pre-application meeting request was forwarded to NJDEP and submission of the permit application is expected shortly. See the attached public notice for more information regarding this project.


(8/21/2015) Bridge E-04 Load Posting - WEIGHT POSTED AT 12 TONS Please see attached public notice. regarding the 12-Ton weight posting of Sussex County Bridge E-04 which carries CR-631, a.k.a. Franklin Avenue, over the Wallkill River. The bridge is located in the Borough of Franklin on CR 631 directly downstream of the Franklin Pond falls.


(8/20/2015) Project Completion Notice Sussex County Bridge D-44 Emergency Repairs CR-637 (Beemer Church Road), Frankford Township

Please be advised that as of 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 20, Emergency Repairs to bridge D-44 have been completed and CR-637 (Beemer Church Road) in Frankford Township has been fully reopened to traffic. Attached is an updated project completion notice with additional information.

Please find attached the most recent update notice for the 2015 Sussex County Striping Program. Phase 1 of the program was completed today. A notice will be distributed in advance of the start of Phase 2 which is anticipated to commence in August 2015.

(6/4/2015) Bridge B-10, Recreational Road (a.k.a. County Fairgrounds Road) - Closure Notice

Traffic Advisory – Bridge Closure
Sussex County Bridge B-10
Recreational Road (a.k.a. County Fairgrounds Road) in Branchville

Please be advised that on Friday, June 5, 2015 Bridge B-10 in the Borough of Branchville will be closed to traffic due to deterioration of the load carrying stringers (beams). This bridge provides access to Branchville Borough's recreational fields via Railroad / Maple Avenues. Alternate access to Branchville's recreational fields remains available via 2nd Street. For additional information regarding this closure and follow up actions related to this bridge structure, please see the attached public notice.


(5/15/2015) Project Update Notice: 2014 Sussex County Resurfacing Program Please find attached the completion notice of the 2014 Sussex County Resurfacing Program. The completion of all roads except CR 517 Bypass occurred in Fall 2014. Completion of all work on CR 517 Sparta Bypass occurred on May 13, 2015. Final punch list items remain.


(5/11/2015) Pending Construction Notice Sussex County Bridge H-19 Repairs CR-519 (Newton-McDanolds Corner Road), Hampton Township Attached is a project notice for repairs to Sussex County Bridge H-19 on CR-519 (Newton-McDanolds Corner Road) in Hampton Township. Please be advised that construction is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, May 18 and last for approximately 3 weeks. Daily, single-lane flagging operations will be utilized during working hours for the duration of construction to allow for construction activities, material deliveries, etc. NO full road closure of CR-519 is anticipated during construction. This work is being advanced in preparation for guide rail upgrades to be performed along CR-519 as a part of the 2014 High Risk Rural Roads Program.


(5/1/2015) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge S-28 - Old Tannery Road - Stillwater Township As of Friday, May 1, 2015, Old Tannery Road is open to traffic at Bridge S-28. All construction activities have been completed and only a few final punch list items remain. For additional information regarding the Reconstruction of Bridge S-28, please see the attached public notice.


(1/23/2015) Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge V-39 CR 642 Vernon & Wantage Townships Bridge V-39, County Route 642 (Owens Station Road) over Wallkill River.
County Route 642 has been re-opened. The final items of work required to re-open the roadway were completed at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. The bridge approaches will be milled and repaved and final striping installed in the Spring. Landscaping and punch list items will also be completed in the Spring. (2/15/2013) Bridge X-20 Closed - Wantage Township Carrying Berry Road over a Tributary of the West Branch of the Papakating Creek. Damage sustained during the storms of 2011 and subsequent storm events (Hurricane Sandy and other significant flows) have resulted in continued deterioration of the masonry substructure and roadway embankments at Bridge X-20. In the interest of public safety Bridge X-20 has been closed pending construction of a full bridge replacement.

These details have been developed by the Sussex County Division of Engineering to augment, and as appropriate replace, the New Jersey Department of Transportation Standard Construction Details.

Land Development Standards
Provide rules, regulations, and standards for site plans and subdivisions and procedures for review of site plans and subdivisions within the County's jurisdiction.

About 

The Sussex County Division of Engineering is charged with overseeing the numerous facets associated with maintaining, improving, and monitoring the County's Transportation network. The Division works closely with the Division of Facilities Management providing project support and civil/survey design services for a variety of facility related capital improvement projects. Additionally, the Division of Engineering provides technical support to the Division of Planning.

Included within the Department's responsibilities are tasks such as in-house design of road and bridge improvement projects, management of multimillion dollar design projects, monitoring the condition of bridges; signals; signs; traffic markings and other similar infrastructure items, developing long term capital budgets, construction stakeout, ROW surveys, management of county road and bridge construction projects, track traffic trends, and monitor work within the county right of way through road opening and driveway permits.
