(7/26/2016) Project Startup Notice: 2016 Sussex County Striping Program

Please find attached the Project Startup Notice for the 2016 Sussex County Striping Program. Weather permitting, the latex portion of the program is scheduled to begin on Thursday July 28th, 2016 at 7:00 A.M. Latex striping will begin on CR 519 a.k.a. Ridge Road in Green Township. An effort will be made to work from the southern part of the County northbound. All work is expected to advance under a mobile single lane closure. Please see the attached public notice for additional information.


(7/20/2016) Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge P-36, CR-646 (a.k.a. Jager Road) in Sandyston Twp.

Attached is a construction notice for the above referenced project. Please be advised that construction began yesterday, Tuesday, July 19 and is anticipated to last for 6-8 weeks. CR-646 (Jager Road) will be closed to through traffic at the repair location for the duration of construction. Throughout the duration of construction a posted detour via Ridge Road, CR-560 (Tuttles Corner Dingmans Road), and Old Mine Road will be in place to advise motorists unfamiliar with the area. Please see the attached public notice for additional information.


(7/15/2016) Project Update Notice: 2016 Sussex County Micro Surfacing

Attached is an updated notice for the subject project. Line removal and temporary line placement has been completed on CR 517 and crack sealing is commencing. Long line removal and temporary line placement has begun on CR 620.


(7/13/2016) Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge E-04 - CR 631 (Franklin Avenue) - Franklin Borough

Please be advised that as of 11:00 AM today, July 13, 2016, CR 631 (Franklin Avenue) has been closed to traffic at Bridge E-04. A posted detour via SR 94 and SR 23 will be maintained for the duration of construction. The anticipated construction duration is 2.5 months. Please see the attached Public Notice for additional information regarding the Rehabilitation of Bridge E-04.


(7/8/2016) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge C-17 Roseville Road Byram Township Bridge C-17, Roseville Road over Lackawanna Cutoff

Pursuant to the Governors' Executive Order 210 and the NJDOT Commissioners' Shutdown Order, the County has been directed by NJDOT Local Aid District 1 Office to suspend work on its Local Aid projects that include a Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) funding component.

A significant portion of funding for the Bridge C-17 replacement project is from TTF funds and, accordingly, the project has been suspended pending further direction from the State and NJDOT.

The current road closure and posted detour will remain in place. See the attached public notice for more information regarding the status of the project.


(7/8/2016) 2015 Sussex County Resurfacing Program - Update

Pursuant to the Governors' Executive Order 210 and the NJDOT Commissioners' Shutdown Order, the County has been directed by NJDOT Local Aid District 1 Office to suspend work on its Local Aid projects that include a Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) funding component.

The current Resurfacing Program includes a substantial TTF funding allocation and has been suspended pending further direction from the State and the NJDOT. Attached, please find a public notice with additional information regarding the project.


(7/8/2016) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge O-07 - Passaic Avenue - Ogdensburg Borough - Suspension of Work Notice

The construction of the Replacement of Bridge O-07 has been suspended pursuant to the Governors' Executive Order 210 and the NJDOT Commissioners' Shutdown Order. A large portion of the funding for the project is from the Local Bridge Future Needs Program (LBFNP) which is funded from the Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) and thus subjected to the Shutdown Order. Please see the attached public notice for additional information regarding the suspension of work on Bridge O-07.


(6/28/2016) Project Startup Notice: 2016 Sussex County Crack Sealing Program


*** Please note the start date of the crack sealing program has been rescheduled to July 11th. ***

Please find attached the Project Startup Notice for the 2016 Sussex County Crack Sealing Program. Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin in one week on Tuesday July 5th, 2016 at 7:00 A.M. Work will begin on CR 667 a.k.a. Lake Wallkill Road in Vernon Township. The anticipated sequence of work is included in the notice. An effort will be made to work from the northern part of the County southbound. All work is expected to advance under a mobile single lane closure.


(6/28/2016) Rehabilitation of Bridge S-10, CR-617 (Fairview Lake Road) in Stillwater Township

Please be advised that the Construction Start and Road Closure date for this project has been rescheduled for on or about July 6, 2016 at the request of the Contractor. Work is still scheduled to be completed in late August to Early September. CR-617 (Fairview Lake Road) will be closed to through traffic at the bridge for the duration of construction. Throughout the duration of construction a posted detour via CR-521 (Stillwater Road) and Middleville Road will be in place to advise motorists unfamiliar with the area. See the attached public notice for additional information.


(6/17/2016) Repairs to Sussex County Bridge H-27, CR-622 (a.k.a. Newton-Swartswood Road)

Please see attached for a project notice for the above referenced project. Repair work is scheduled to begin on or about Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Work will utilize partial closures of the CR-622 and Old Swartswood Road Intersection or single-lane flagger controlled work zones throughout the course of construction, with no full closure of the roadways or intersection anticipated.

Please find attached a notice which summarizes the roadway maintenance projects currently under development within the Sussex County Division of Engineering for the 2016 Construction Season. Project specific notices with more detail will be distributed as construction approaches.


(5/12/2016) Advanced Construction Notice: 2015 High Risk Rural Roads Program Please find attached a notice which summarizes the 2015 High Risk Rural Roads Program scheduled for the upcoming 2016 construction season. The Division of Engineering will send out more detailed notices as construction approaches.


(4/29/2016) Traffic Signal Enhancements at Signal SC-6 (CR-622 & CR-519 near Sussex County Community College in Newton)
Please see attached for a project notice for the above referenced project. Traffic signal enhancement work is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, May 2, 2016. Lane shifts and closure or auxiliary turn lanes will be utilized for construction with no full closure or detour of the roadway anticipated for this work.


(4/26/2016) Repairs to Sussex County Bridge F-13, CR-622 (a.k.a. Newton-Swartswood Road) in Fredon Township
Please see attached for a project notice for the above referenced project. Repair work is scheduled to begin on or about Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Work will utilize daily lane shifts or single-lane flagger controlled work zones throughout the course of construction, with no full closure of the roadway anticipated. The previous work at Bridge F-14, which is located a half mile east of the Bridge F-13 location on CR-622, has been completed, and all associated traffic control devices have been removed to prevent any overlap of the two work zones.

(4/8/2016) Scour Repair of Sussex County Bridge S-16, Carrying Stillwater Road In Stillwater Township
Please see attached for a project notice for the above referenced project. Scour repairs are scheduled to begin on or about Monday, April 11, 2016, pending favorable stream flow conditions (i.e. the stream flow remains low enough to work). Please see the attached public notice for additional information regarding this project.


(3/24/2016) Bridge Q-06 Main Street Sparta Township Road Closure
Bridge Q-06, Main Street over Wallkill River - Geotechnical Soil Borings

The start date for exploratory soil borings for the replacement of Bridge Q-06 has been confirmed for Monday, March 28th and it is expected the work will take two – three days to complete. In the event of rain, which is currently forecast at a 60% chance for Monday, the start of work will be pushed out until Tuesday. Variable message boards have been posted at the bridge advising of the upcoming road closure. The closure will be between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day. (12/04/2015) Bridge S-25, CR-622 (Newton-Swartswood Rd) Weight Posting Reduction Please see attached for a public notice regarding the pending reduction of weight posting of Sussex County Bridge S-25 on CR-622 (a.k.a. Newton-Swartswood Road) in the Swartswood section of Stillwater. Installation of revised bridge weight limit signs will commence as soon as sign fabrication is complete and all utility markouts have cleared. If you have any questions or concerns with regard to this load posting or the bridge structure, please feel free to contact the Sussex County Division of Engineering.


(11/5/2015) Bridge B-10, Recreational Road (a.k.a. County Fairgrounds Road) - Opening & Weight Posting


Please be advised that on or about Monday, November 9, 2015, Bridge B-10 in the Borough of Branchville will be weight posted at 4 tons and opened to weight restricted traffic. Please see the attached public notice for additional information regarding this weight posting.

(2/15/2013) Bridge X-20 Closed - Wantage Township Carrying Berry Road over a Tributary of the West Branch of the Papakating Creek. Damage sustained during the storms of 2011 and subsequent storm events (Hurricane Sandy and other significant flows) have resulted in continued deterioration of the masonry substructure and roadway embankments at Bridge X-20. In the interest of public safety Bridge X-20 has been closed pending construction of a full bridge replacement.

These details have been developed by the Sussex County Division of Engineering to augment, and as appropriate replace, the New Jersey Department of Transportation Standard Construction Details.

Land Development Standards
Provide rules, regulations, and standards for site plans and subdivisions and procedures for review of site plans and subdivisions within the County's jurisdiction.

About 

The Sussex County Division of Engineering is charged with overseeing the numerous facets associated with maintaining, improving, and monitoring the County's Transportation network. The Division works closely with the Division of Facilities Management providing project support and civil/survey design services for a variety of facility related capital improvement projects. Additionally, the Division of Engineering provides technical support to the Division of Planning.

Included within the Department's responsibilities are tasks such as in-house design of road and bridge improvement projects, management of multimillion dollar design projects, monitoring the condition of bridges; signals; signs; traffic markings and other similar infrastructure items, developing long term capital budgets, construction stakeout, ROW surveys, management of county road and bridge construction projects, track traffic trends, and monitor work within the county right of way through road opening and driveway permits.
