Water Main Replacement in Stanhope borough, The Borough of Stanhope is undertaking a water system improvement project on Brooklyn Road – Sussex County Route 602. Construction will commence on June 23, 2014 with a road closure. Please visit Stanhope Borough's website for project updates.

(7/25/2014) CR-517 - Rudetown Road - V05 Culvert Repairs - Construction Notice Attached is a project notice for repairs to Sussex County Culvert V-05, on CR-517 (Rudetown Road) in Vernon Township. Please be advised that construction began yesterday, Monday, July 7 and is anticipated to last for 4-5 weeks. CR-517 (Rudetown Road) will be CLOSED to through traffic at the repair location for the duration of construction. Throughout the duration of construction a posted detour via SR-23 and SR-94 will be in place to advise motorists unfamiliar with the area.

(7/25/2014) Bridge J-15, CR-517 (Rudetown Road) - Construction Notice Please see attached for a project notice for repairs to Bridge J-15 on CR-517, Rudetown Road, in Hardyston Township. Bridge repairs and guide rail installation are nearly complete along the Southbound (Downstream) side. Work is anticipated to begin next week along the Northbound (Upstream) side. Work is anticipated to be completed on or about 8/1/2014.

(7/25/2014) Repair of CR-565 (Glenwood Road) Drainage and Bridge V-38 - Construction Notice Attached is a project notice for repairs to the CR-565 Drainage System and Bridge V-38, on CR-565 (Glenwood Road) in Vernon Township (near the Martin Farm). Please be advised that construction is anticipated to begin on or about, Monday, August 11 and is anticipated to last 2 weeks. CR-565 (Glenwood Road) will be CLOSED to through traffic at the repair location for the duration of construction. Throughout the duration of construction a posted detour will be in place via CR-641 (Drew Mountain Road) and CR-517 (Vernon-Glenwood Road). Work has been scheduled to be completed prior to reopening of Vernon Twp Schools on 9/4/2014 and no impact to regular school busing operations is anticipated. See attached for a public notice with additional information and a detour map of the area in question.

(7/16/2014) Replacement of Bridge S-28 - Old Tannery Road - Stillwater Township Plans for the Replacement of Bridge S-28 on Old Tannery Road in Stillwater Township are currently being advertised for bids. The receipt of the bids is scheduled for Friday August 8th with an anticipated award date for construction on August 13th. Construction is scheduled to begin in Early Fall. Please refer to the attached Public Notice for additional information regarding the Replacement of Bridge S-28.

(7/15/2014) Project Startup Notice: 2014 Long Line Striping Program Sussex County Division of Engineering is distributing the attached Project Startup Notice for the 2014 Sussex County Striping Program. Weather permitting, restriping is scheduled to begin tomorrow July 16th, 2014 on County Route 617 a.k.a. Stillwater Fairview Lake Road. An effort will be made to work from the southern part of the County northbound.

(7/9/2014) Bridge V-29 (Lounsberry Hollow Road) - Construction Complete Please be advised that construction at Bridge V-29 on Lounsberry Hollow Road in Vernon Township has been completed and the roadway has been fully opened to traffic as of July 8, 2014. Please see attached Public Notice for additional information regarding this project.

(7/9/2014) Project Update Notice: 2014 Sussex County Crack Sealing Program Please find attached the most recent Project Update Notice for the 2014 Sussex County Crack Sealing Program. Work progresses on County Route 629 Wykertown Road. Afterwards, the crew will move to Wantage Township and work on segments of CR 628 Branchville Lewisburg Road and CR 565 Lewisburg Creamery Road.

(7/7/2014) Project Notice - County Route 607, a.k.a. Maxim Drive, Retaining Wall Replacement Attached is a project notice for the design and replacement of a retaining wall supporting a segment of Sussex County Route 607, a.k.a. Maxim Drive, in the Borough of Hopatcong. Design documents are being finalized and efforts are underway to expedite utility relocations in hopes of realizing a fall construction. Replacement of the retaining wall will require a Full Closure of CR-607 at the project location. A detour will be developed to help manage the flow of traffic during the closure. Updated Project Notices will be issued as design, bidding, and utility relocation milestones are achieved. Refer to the attached public notice for additional project information.

(7/7/2014) Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge X-09 Geotechnical Borings Please be advised the geotechnical investigation was completed today and the roadway re-opened to traffic at approximately 11:30 a.m.

(6/30/2014) Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge V-39 CR 642 (Owens Station Road) Vernon/Wantage Townships Attached is a project status update report for the Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge V-39. At this time the project is being advertised for bid with receipt of bids scheduled for July 15th. Award of a construction contract is anticipated for July 23rd with construction expected to commence on or about August 4th. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.

Streetscape Project on County Route 560 in Sandyston Township, The Township of Sandyston will be doing their Phase II-Streetscape Improvement Project on County Route 560 in the Village of Layton, alternating traffic will be taking place during the construction period.

(6/24/2014) 2014 Sussex County Resurfacing Program The attached notice has been updated to reflect the current funding sources for the 2014 Sussex County Resurfacing Program.

(6/13/2014) Project Update Notice: 2014 Sussex County Crack Sealing Program Attached is a Project Update Notice for the 2014 Sussex County Crack Sealing Program. After a week of weather related cancellations the work shall resume on County Route 616 a.k.a. Newton Sparta Road on Monday June 16.

(4/9/2014) Main Street Streetscape Project on County Route 517, Ogdensburg Borough The Borough of Ogdensburg will be doing a revitalize project on Main Street from Passaic Avenue to the Ogdensburg Fire House. Construction will commence in April 2014 and is anticipated to take six to eight weeks. Please visit the Ogdenburg website for project updates.

(4/2/2014) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge E-07 CR 631 (North Church Road) Franklin Borough Attached is a project status update report for the Replacement of Sussex County Bridge E-07. Substantial completion and reopening CR 631 to traffic was achieved on December 30, 2013. The contractor has remobilized and is completing punch list items and preparing for landscaping. Final acceptance of the project is expected by June.

(4/2/2014) Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge E-06 CR 631 (Church Street) Franklin Borough . Attached is a project status update report for the Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge E-06. Substantial completion and reopening CR 631 to traffic was achieved on December 27, 2013. Completion of punch list items and final acceptance of the project is expected by mid May.

(2/27/2014) Please be advised that the closure of Bridge O-07 on Passaic Avenue in Ogdensburg, previously scheduled for March 7th, 10th, and 11th has been delayed due to currently forecasted weather conditions. The geotechnical investigation work will be rescheduled for later in March when weather conditions permit (i.e. daytime temperatures are above freezing and snow is not anticipated).

(2/15/2013) Bridge X-20 Closed - Wantage Township Carrying Berry Road over a Tributary of the West Branch of the Papakating Creek. Damage sustained during the storms of 2011 and subsequent storm events (Hurricane Sandy and other significant flows) have resulted in continued deterioration of the masonry substructure and roadway embankments at Bridge X-20. In the interest of public safety Bridge X-20 has been closed pending construction of a full bridge replacement.

These details have been developed by the Sussex County Division of Engineering to augment, and as appropriate replace, the New Jersey Department of Transportation Standard Construction Details.

Land Development Standards
Provide rules, regulations, and standards for site plans and subdivisions and procedures for review of site plans and subdivisions within the County's jurisdiction.

About 

The Sussex County Division of Engineering is charged with overseeing the numerous facets associated with maintaining, improving, and monitoring the County's Transportation network. The Division works closely with the Division of Facilities Management providing project support and civil/survey design services for a variety of facility related capital improvement projects. Additionally, the Division of Engineering provides technical support to the Division of Planning.

Included within the Department's responsibilities are tasks such as in-house design of road and bridge improvement projects, management of multimillion dollar design projects, monitoring the condition of bridges; signals; signs; traffic markings and other similar infrastructure items, developing long term capital budgets, construction stakeout, ROW surveys, management of county road and bridge construction projects, track traffic trends, and monitor work within the county right of way through road opening and driveway permits.
