(2/18/2015) Project Update - County Route 607, a.k.a. Maxim Drive, Retaining Wall Replacement Attached is a project notice for the Sussex County Route 607, a.k.a. Maxim Drive, Retaining Wall Replacement Project, which is scheduled to be advertised for bidding in the next few weeks. Construction is expected to begin late June or early July after Schools have dismissed for the 2015 summer recess. Replacement of the wall will require a full closure and detour of CR-607 at the wall location, with an anticipated duration of road closure of up to 10 weeks. Updated project notices and additional information will be distributed as the project advances towards construction. (1/23/2015) Rehabilitation of Sussex County Bridge V-39 CR 642 Vernon & Wantage Townships Bridge V-39, County Route 642 (Owens Station Road) over Wallkill River.
County Route 642 has been re-opened. The final items of work required to re-open the roadway were completed at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. The bridge approaches will be milled and repaved and final striping installed in the Spring. Landscaping and punch list items will also be completed in the Spring. See the attached final public notice for more information regarding this project.

(1/9/2015) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge S-28 - Old Tannery Road - Stillwater Township Due to the onset of colder weather, the temperature sensitive construction items for Bridge S-28 cannot be completed. The Contractor has de-mobilized from the site and will re-mobilize when weather permits. The anticipated completion and re-opening of Old Tannery Road at Bridge S-28 is Spring 2015. Please see the attached public notice for additional information regarding this project.

(1/5/2015) Replacement of Sussex County Bridge D-12 Stempert Road Frankford Township Bridge D-12, Stempert Road over Culver Creek
Construction plans and specifications are now in 98% review and bid documents should be completed by March 2015. The authorization of FEMA Emergency Relief Funds has not yet been received, however, it is our intention to bid and award a construction contract as soon as funding authorization is received. Project status updates will be issued as the project progresses. See the attached public notice for more information regarding this project.

(10/23/2014) Project Update Notice: 2014 Sussex County Resurfacing Program Please find attached the most current update notice for the 2014 Resurfacing Program. Milling & Paving of all routes except CR 517 Sparta Bypass has been completed as of October 20, 2014. Striping and Pavement Markings progress. Asphalt Plug Joints on Bridge K-03 are scheduled to be installed tomorrow October 24, 2014.

(05/16/2011)Bridge F-04 - Puder Road - Fredon

(2/15/2013) Bridge X-20 Closed - Wantage Township Carrying Berry Road over a Tributary of the West Branch of the Papakating Creek. Damage sustained during the storms of 2011 and subsequent storm events (Hurricane Sandy and other significant flows) have resulted in continued deterioration of the masonry substructure and roadway embankments at Bridge X-20. In the interest of public safety Bridge X-20 has been closed pending construction of a full bridge replacement.

Standard Construction Details
These details have been developed by the Sussex County Division of Engineering to augment, and as appropriate replace, the New Jersey Department of Transportation Standard Construction Details.

Land Development Standards
Provide rules, regulations, and standards for site plans and subdivisions and procedures for review of site plans and subdivisions within the County's jurisdiction.


The Sussex County Division of Engineering is charged with overseeing the numerous facets associated with maintaining, improving, and monitoring the County's Transportation network. The Division works closely with the Division of Facilities Management providing project support and civil/survey design services for a variety of facility related capital improvement projects. Additionally, the Division of Engineering provides technical support to the Division of Planning.

Included within the Department's responsibilities are tasks such as in-house design of road and bridge improvement projects, management of multimillion dollar design projects, monitoring the condition of bridges; signals; signs; traffic markings and other similar infrastructure items, developing long term capital budgets, construction stakeout, ROW surveys, management of county road and bridge construction projects, track traffic trends, and monitor work within the county right of way through road opening and driveway permits.
