MISSION STATEMENT

The Sussex County Prosecutor's Office Continuously seeks to improve its proactive and collaborative Crime Prevention Initiatives through partnerships between local law agencies and community stakeholders. The Community Justice Program assists in the development and Evaluation of delinquency prevention programs and provides community groups with appropriate educational presentations and statistical information. Since the formation of this program, in February 2009, the Community Justice Program, in cooperation with the Sussex County Prosecutor's High Tech Crime Unit and The Center for Prevention & Counseling have conducted Cyber Safety awareness presentations to Middle and High School students at the following locations on the topics of Cyber Bullying and the dangers of Sexting:

  • Selected Sussex County Libraries (Hopatcong, Newton, Sparta & Vernon)
  • Sussex County Vocational School
  • Hopatcong Middle School
  • Hopatcong High School
  • Lenape Valley High school
  • Lafayette School (6-8th grades with a Parents Information Night)
  • Green Hills School
  • Halstead Street School, Newton

With the cooperation of the Sussex County Prosecutor's Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, drug & gang awareness presentations were also conducted at the following locations:

  • High Point High School (high school students)
    • Drug Awareness
  • Sussex County Vocational School (Faculty Members)
    • Task Force Operations & Goals
    • Gang Awareness
    • Drug Identification

The Sussex County Community Justice Program remains focused on taking a proactive approach with youth programs and toward reducing and preventing youth driven crime. Since February 2009, and within the first year after the formation of the program nearly 4,000 students and over 250 teachers and parents have received Community Justice awareness presentations designed at educating and protecting our youth. The Community Justice Program is funded through a Justice Assistance Grant Program.
