Sussex County Skylands Ride Receives New Buses

[Newton, NJ] Skylands Ride is Sussex County's public bus service. Many residents utilize the service to travel to work, Sussex County Community College, medical appointments, and major retail areas for shopping. Skylands Ride recently received four new vehicles from NJ Transit, replacing older vehicles that had been retired.

A new type of vehicle added to the Skylands Ride fleet is a Dodge Caravan equipped with a wheelchair ramp and the capacity for three passengers plus one wheelchair. This vehicle will afford passengers the ability to have an aide accompany them to their destinations. Two new 2017 Ford E350 minibuses each have a seating capacity of 16 passengers plus one wheelchair; and, one Ford minibus has a seating capacity of 14 passengers plus one wheelchair. Each bus will average over 40 passenger trips a day, thereby allowing Skylands Ride to provide more rides during peak hours and reduce the waiting list for demand response rides. It is anticipated that two larger vehicles will also be received within the next two months.

Skylands Ride operates on weekdays from 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday transportation services are provided on the Connect route from 8:20 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. Residents can obtain further information pertaining to the hours and times of services, including a listing of County holidays, by calling Skylands Ride, Monday through Saturday, at 973-579-0480 or visiting the County website at www.sussex.nj.us/transit.
