2011 Summer Reading Program at the Sussex County Library System

The Sussex County Library System will be providing a free, fun-filled Summer Reading Program again this year! The program includes weekly fun events and reading clubs. The Summer Reading Clubs are for ages 6 months through 18 years old and are the highlight of our summer programming. Opening Week is Monday, June 27th through Friday, July 1. Special events are planned for the Main Library and the five branches.

For children ages six months through those children entering grade six, the six week club theme is "One World, Many Stories." Children are required to read only one book per week in order to receive a prize at the end of the summer. Registration for this club begins Monday, June 27. Age appropriate weekly programs including stories, books, games, and crafts will be available at all six branches for four weeks beginning July 5. Special programs such as Juggling for Fun, Guitar Bob, concerts, and craft workshops are being offered. Please register for each program separately. Space is limited. As always, siblings are welcome to attend programs as long as there is room. Registration for these programs begins Monday, June 13.

For teens entering grades 7 - 12, the theme is "You Are Here." Teens are required to read only one book per week in order to receive a prize at the end of the summer. The Sussex County Library will be raffling two Pandigital multimedia e-readers and two Vivtar digital camcorders to teens who submit book reviews through the online teen reading club. Registration for this club begins Monday, June 27. The programs planned for teens include the Just Us Teens Book Club, the Onigiri Animanga Club, a Hunger Games Party, concerts, and more. Registration for these programs begins Monday, June 13.

Some branches will need teen volunteers, ages 14 and up, to help with shelving library materials, children's programs, and programs planned for teens. Applications will be available on our website. An orientation session is required. Each branch needs to be contacted individually and the number of volunteers is limited.

Registration for the reading clubs will be done online beginning June 27. To register, go to the library's website (www.sussexcountylibrary.org), click on the registration link, and follow the directions.
