Eileen Francis Named 2009 Senior of the Year
(Newton, NJ)The Sussex County Division of Senior Services is pleased to announce that Eileen Francis of Sparta was named "Sussex County Senior of the Year" during the Senior Day festivities at the NJ State Fair / Sussex County Farm and Horse Show. Multiple nominations were submitted on behalf of Ms. Francis. Marianne Dilworth, Sparta Senior Citizen Coordinator, referred to Ms. Francis as “… a true Guardian Angel. (She) knows when people are hurting and in need of friendship and care.” Other submissions noted that Ms. Francis takes people to medical appointments, visits the homebound elderly and brings communion to nursing home residents. She serves on the Sparta Senior Citizens Advisory Board and volunteers at the Senior Center. It was also noted that she is “on call for all emergencies.” Eileen Francis is a strong advocate for seniors and serves as a role model for her peers.
The Award Committee had a difficult time choosing one person from five outstanding nominees including Miriam “Mim” Carpenter of Montague, Stanley Kurek of Byram Township, Mary Piscopo of Hamburg, and Gerald Van Gorden of Branchville. All nominees were acknowledged for significant contributions to their communities at the Senior Day festivities.
