November 6, 2017
Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the entry of a guilty plea to an accusation before the Honorable William J. McGovern, III, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on November 6, 2017 by Ronald Gerstmann.
Gerstmann, age 59, of Sussex, pled guilty to 3rd degree Theft of Services, two counts of 4th degree Bad Checks and 4th degree Forgery. Sentencing is presently scheduled for January, 2018.
The defendant admitted in March of 2017 he wrote a check to Michael’s Jewelers in Franklin knowing the check was drawn on a closed account. He also admitted to writing a check to the Mobil Gas Station in Franklin to pay for fuel he obtained using a check from a closed account. The defendant also admitted that in May of this year he drafted a false landlord agreement that had no legal validity, which allowed people to believe they were tenants under the same access to a property located in Sussex, which he did not own or have any legal access to.
Gerstmann was represented by Bruce Farrier, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
