May 31, 2017
Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the conviction of Daniel R. Ziolkowski, before the Honorable N. Peter Conforti, J.S.C. and a jury, at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton.
Ziolkowski, age 54 of Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania, was convicted on May 31, 2017, by a jury of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, a third degree crime, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, a fourth degree crime, Criminal Mischief, a fourth degree crime, and two counts of Harassment, a petty disorderly persons offense.
On December 24, 2014, Ziolkowski was operating his motor vehicle in a westerly direction on Layton Road (County Route 560) in Sandyston Township.  On two occasions, Ziolkowski “brake-checked” the car following to his rear, coming to a complete stop in front of the following car after the second occasion.  Ziolkowski then exited his vehicle and while brandishing a knife approached the following vehicle yelling and screaming at the driver.   While continuing to yell and scream at the driver, Ziolkowski caused damage to the driver’s door with his lower body and caused further damage by using the knife to stab the windshield and to slash and flatten the left front tire.  Ziolkowski then re-entered his vehicle and fled from the scene.
The case was investigated by members of the New Jersey State Police with assistance from Pennsylvania State Police with follow-up investigation by detectives of the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Ziolkowski was represented by Janine Cerra, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
