Press Release - Sentencing of Kyle Werner

     Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Kyle Werner, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern III, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on April 21, 2017.

     Werner, age 28 of Sussex, was sentenced to three years of probation and 85 days in jail with credit for 55 days and to serve the balance of 30 days in the Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program.  He was ordered to attend AA/NA three times per week, continue treatment, submit a DNA sample at his own expense, make restitution totaling $5,129.88, and pay fines and fees totaling $2,886.00.  His driver license was ordered suspended for one year.

     He pled guilty on February 28, 2017, to Burglary, a third degree crime, Joyriding, a third degree crime, Resisting Arrest, a fourth degree crime, Obstruction of Justice, a fourth degree crime, and the motor vehicle offenses of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report an Accident, Driving While Suspended, and Reckless Driving.

     The defendant entered a Vernon Township auto repair shop without permission and took a vehicle for a ride on May 29, 2014.  He drove the vehicle into a wooden structure at the Vernon Dairy Queen.  He abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot from police.

     Werner was represented by Martin Morrison, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
