Sussex County Skylands Ride has partnered with Google Maps to provide customers with the ease and convenience of accessing transit data via Google Maps.
The Google website is renowned for organizing the world's information and making it universally accessible and useful. Google Maps has also been making a tremendous impact on public transportation. Transit agencies in the U.S. and around the world can submit their operating schedules to Google Maps, which publishes the data as part of its Google Maps service.
Sussex County Skylands Ride has partnered with Google Maps to provide customers with the ease and convenience of accessing transit data via Google Maps. This service allows users to obtain step-by-step transit directions, find transit stops in their area, and view station information and schedules. Residents can now visit Google Maps to obtain travel details to endless destinations via public transportation, personal vehicle, bicycle or walking.
Ryan Poscharsky, Strategic Partner Manager at Google states, "As part of Google's commitment to develop useful public-private partnerships, we are pleased to welcome the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Social Services, Skylands Ride to Google Maps. This partnership shows the Department's commitment to innovating, serving their riders, and attracting new riders."
Riders can customize their routes by entering the date and time they plan to depart for their trip or arrive at their destination, and the trip planner will provide multiple options. Each option will outline the amount of time and number of transfers for each possibility. Google Maps also provides walking directions so riders can obtain detailed directions on how to get to or from the transit station and how to get to their destination once they leave the train/bus. Users can provide the necessary data to obtain an estimated price of the transit trip, and Google Maps can compare the cost of transit to the cost of driving.
Transit data comes to life with aerial imagery, business listings, user reviews, and street-level views, which provide users with a thorough understanding of their destination before they even arrive. Users do not need to know the address in order to get directions. They can simply enter a business name or category in the "to" and "from" fields in order to locate their desired destination.
Google Maps can be accessed at http://maps.google.com from a desktop browser or mobile phone (such as iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, S60, and other Java enabled phones).Google Maps supports over 40 languages and can generate an output that is compatible with screen readers for visually impaired users.
This free and unique service offers an endless array of transportation options that cannot be found elsewhere; all at no cost to taxpayers. Google Maps and Skylands Ride hope to provide better experiences for riders and less congestion on streets and highways.
