Sussex County's S.H.I.P. Earns Performance Award
(Newton, NJ) The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services is pleased to announce that it is one of only eleven counties in New Jersey to receive a Performance Award for its State Health Insurance Assistance Program (S.H.I.P.). S.H.I.P. is a statewide program sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services with major funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). S.H.I.P. provides FREE, objective, confidential help to New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries, who have problems with or questions about Medicare, Medigap, Medicare Advantage Plans, Pharmaceutical Programs and Long-Term Care Insurance.
Each year, the CMS assesses whether a county is improving its performance. Compared to the period of July1, 2008 – June 30, 2009 Sussex County’s S.H.I.P. was above benchmark for the period of July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010. The resulting Performance Award of $1,298 will enable the SH.I.P. to continue to grow. Recently, the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services began offering S.H.I.P. services at the Sussex County Main Library. Beginning November 15, 2010, S.H.I.P. counselors will be available for scheduled hours at the Sparta Senior Center Silver Café located in Knoll Heights Village, Sparta, NJ.
S.H.I.P. will also be offering “Part D Days” throughout the County from November 15 through December 31, 2010 to assist Medicare beneficiaries in choosing prescription plans during the Open Enrollment period. For additional information or to make an appointment at any of the locations, please contact the Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Senior Services at 973-579-0555.
