    Leaders Sought for Exercise Programs
 
(Sparta, NJ)               The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Seniors Services, is offering FREE training for volunteers who are interested in leading exercise programs for seniors.   Trainings will take place at Sparta Health and Wellness, Sparta, NJ, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch and materials are included. Each training program consists of two days.   Potential leaders must attend both days of training for their program(s) of choice. 
“MOVE TODAY” volunteers co-lead a 12 session series of workshops (1 hour each) using non-aerobic, resistance-band exercises. The program is designed to improve flexibility, balance, stamina, muscle strength, posture and body mechanics. Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on Tuesdays, October 26 and November 2, 2010.   
“PROJECT HEALTHY BONES” volunteers co-lead a 24 session workshop series (1-1/2 hours each) consisting of weight-bearing exercises and education for anyone who has been diagnosed with, or is at risk of developing, osteoporosis.   Exercises are designed to improve or stabilize bone density; improve strength, balance and flexibility; and build muscle mass.  Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on Tuesdays, November 9 and 16, 2010.
