Sussex County Farmers Market at the Fairgrounds

The Sussex County Farmers Market at the Fairgrounds is entering its third month of the season and is chock full of locally grown products. Open every Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, this market is one of the few in New Jersey housed in its own building. Located at the main entrance to the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Plains Road in Augusta, the market building is easily identified by the beautiful barn quilt painted on its' side. The design, called Country Roads, brings the viewer into the center with a leading line of blue, gold and green lines (or roads) - much the same way as the county welcomes visitors. This market is manned by Sussex County farmers selling both fresh and value added products. Everything is locally grown or Jersey Fresh! Products include: seasonal fruits and vegetables, berries, grass-fed beef, pork, lamb, eggs, honey, flowers (bedding plants, perennials and dried flower arrangements), alpaca fiber and products, fresh farm cheese, wine, baked goods, value added products including jams, jellies, salsa, pickles and more, and fresh and potted herbs. Fresh products vary by the season, so you may need to visit each week to get the most choices! The Sussex County Master Gardener program (through the local Rutgers Cooperative Extension office) does an educational demonstration the third Saturday of each month from 10:00 to noon. This month's was "Edible Flowers" - stop by for next month's topic. And please note that during Fair Week (August 6-15) the farmers market will move inside the fairgrounds to accommodate all the visitors that enjoy finding Jersey Fresh products.
