Register Ready is a database or registry system that contains information about individuals in New Jersey with special needs who may require special assistance with evacuation of their residence during an emergency situation. According to the NJ Homeland Security and Preparedness Director, Richard L. Cañas, a registry system, "will help first responders make the best use of limited time and resources by planning to help those with limited options for evacuation during an emergency."
Registration for this system can be completed online, at http://registerready.nj.gov by residents with special needs and their families, friends and associates. The information collected on Register Ready is confidential and will not be available to the public. The information will be held securely and only used for emergency response and planning. Specific information regarding an individual's diagnosis or condition is not required, and they will only be asked to include details regarding how their disability or limitation affects their physical ability to evacuate their residence.
Registry Ready is maintained by Sussex County Division of Emergency Management with assistance from the Department of Human Services and the Department of Environmental and Public Health Services. The registry is completely voluntary and an individual or agency can make changes to the account as needed. Participants will be contacted occasionally to ensure the information is correct and/or to make any necessary changes.
