Project Healthy Living Offers Leadership Training
Newton, NJ The Sussex County Division of Seniors Services, in collaboration with Skylands RSVP Volunteer Resource Center, is sponsoring a Fall Training Institute to prepare volunteers to lead a variety of evidence-based health promotion initiatives funded through Title III of the Older Americans Act.
“MOVE TODAY” volunteers lead a 12 session (1 hour per each) exercise program that uses resistance bands to increase strength, stamina and balance. Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sparta Ambulance Building in Sparta. Potential leaders must attend both sessions.
“PROJECT HEALTHY BONES” volunteers lead a 24 session (1 ½ hours each) weight bearing exercise and education program designed for anyone who has been diagnosed or is at risk for osteoporosis. Participants work up to using light weights in the program. Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on
Tuesday, October 13 and Thursday, October 15, 2009, from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Franklin House Senior Apartments in Franklin. Potential leaders must attend both sessions.
“TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH” volunteers lead a six session (2 ½ hours each) health education program for persons and/or their caregivers who are dealing with chronic long term health conditions. Four-day leadership training for this program will take place on Wednesday, October 21, Thursday, October 22, Tuesday, October 27 and Thursday, October 29, 2009, from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at Franklin House Senior Apartments in Franklin. Potential leaders must attend all four sessions. Lunch and materials are provided for each of the programs.
