Master Gardener Training Begins in September

Applications are being accepted for the Rutgers Master Gardener training program for 2009-2010. Classes meet on Wednesdays from 10 AM until noon at the Cooperative Extension office at 129 Morris Turnpike in Newton beginning on September 16, 2009. The Master Gardener program is a volunteer training program administered through Rutgers Cooperative Extension which trains individuals in all aspects of home horticulture. The curriculum includes topics such as botany for gardeners, soils and fertilizers, landscape plant selection, plant pest diagnostics and pest management, vegetable gardening, tree fruits, turfgrass management and houseplants. Each Master Gardener volunteer performs one-hundred hours of service on various Rutgers horticultural projects and/or public events.
