Summer Reading Club at the Sussex County Library

The Sussex County Library will be providing a free, fun-filled Summer Reading Club again this year! The annual club is a great time for all participants and it is the highlight of our programming for children and teenagers. Opening Day is Monday, June 29th and special events are planned for all libraries. The Club runs for six weeks.

For children ages six months through those children entering grade six, the theme is "Be Creative @ your library." For teens entering grades 7 – 12, the theme is "Express Yourself @ your library." Everyone who joins the club will need to read (or be read to) for a minimum of fifteen minutes a day, five days a week, for the six weeks. Kids may read anything – books, magazines, comics, e-mails, whatever! Drama, art, cooking, writing, movement, and music will be featured all summer long. Children through third grade will receive a small prize each week. Those entering grades 4 – 12 will have their names put into raffles for great prize packages and tickets for free events.

There will be weekly programs, at every library, for all children, such as lap sits, story times, creative workshops, watercolor pencil instruction, gardening, book clubs, and Civil War dioramas. Special events include Magician Brian Richards, Junior Magician Showcases, a Captain Underpants party, a Harry Potter Family party, Nina's music, and more.

Teens are invited to participate in song-writing workshops, short story-writing workshops, knitting and crocheting instruction, and book clubs. These programs are in addition to the annual Teen Volunteer Library Program, which asks teens to commit a few hours each week to work with younger children during the summer.

Registration for the Summer Reading Club begins June 29th for children and teens. Register by calling the branch you want to attend. As always, siblings are welcome to attend programs as long as there is room. In addition, parents can register for the Adult Summer Reading Club and make this summer a family affair! See our web site (www.sussexcountylibrary.org) for more details, or call 973-948-3660 and talk to the Children's Department for additional information.
