Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Michael Royce, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern, III, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, on August 4, 2017.
Royce, age 29, of Sussex was sentenced to six years state prison, 259 days jail credit for time served, $155.00 in court fines and $12,550.00 in restitution. He must serve 85% of that sentence before he is eligible for parole under the No Early Release Act.
He pled guilty on May 23, 2017 to the second degree crime of burglary.
He admitted to entering a residence which was not opened to the public at the time nor was licensed or privileged to enter and taking 12 handguns without the owner’s consent. The matter was investigated by the Hamburg Police Department with assistance from the Sussex County Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force.
Royce was represented by Thomas Militano, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Jerome P. Neidhardt.
