Billboard Campaign Encourages Students to Celebrate Without Alcohol
The Prom and Graduation season has quickly descended upon us. It is a time for happiness and celebrations that are meant to mark a significant transition in young people's lives. Unfortunately, it can also be a time of great sadness and tragedy when these celebrations take drastic turns. Too often, teenagers become victims of one of the leading causes of death for their age group - accidents related to underage drinking. The effects of these events are devastating for the teens, their friends, and their families and quickly turn a season of happiness into one of sadness and mourning.
The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Community and Youth Services, Municipal Alliance has collaborated with the Center for Prevention and Counseling in Newton to remind teenagers and their families of the dangers of underage drinking.
The Sussex County Municipal Alliance Committee and GCADA (Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse) has funded one of several billboards (pictured) that can be seen throughout the County reminding families of the dangers of underage drinking especially during the Prom and Graduation season.
The billboard features students from all of the high schools in Sussex County. Its message is clear and concise. Parents have a huge influence on their child's behavior. They can keep them safe by encouraging them to celebrate without alcohol.
Please don't hesitate to contact Nick Loizzi, County Alliance Coordinator, at (973) 948-6000 ext. 1383 or email@example.com if you need further information about the above-referenced toolkit or the Sussex County Municipal Alliance.
